12 Days Ngorongoro Safari ( Kenya/Tanzania combined)
Day 1: Arrive in the morning at Jomo Kenyatta Airport,
where you will be received by your tour driver cum guide, and a tour rep
to brief you on your safari, over a round of refreshing welcome drinks,
after which you begin your safari by taking a scenic drive to the world
famous Masai Mara. Stop enroute at the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment
to see the stunning views and to visit a small church that was built by
Italian prisoners of war during the 1940's, not usually expected in Africa!
You will also see the Maasai people on the way, who live unaffected by modern
civilization. You may stop along the way at small trading centers"dukas"
in Swahili, and enjoy speaking to the locals, some of whom might know some
English. Check in at your safari lodge and enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch.
Later in the afternoon, you will be taken for a gamedrive in the park. Overnight
at Mara Serena Lodge.
Day 2- Today you will explore the great
Masai Mara. After an early breakfast, set off for your gamedrive. You may
stop and walk at special sites such as the Mara river where you can see
hippo and crocodiles. Return to the lodge where you can enjoy a refreshing
swim before your buffet lunch. Later in the afternoon, leave for another
gamedrive to explore another part of the reserve. Expert gametracking skills
of your tour guide cum driver. Enjoy a buffet dinner at the lodge. Evening
entertainment sometimes includes traditional dances and culture talks. Overnight
at Mara Serena Lodge. [Option of a packed picnic lunch, so that you can
be out in the reserve all day, returning to the lodge in the evening- no
extra cost.
Day 3- Depart after breakfast for the scenic Lake Nakuru
National Park, a bird and rhino sanctuary, and home to a variety of wildlife.
This lake is famous for its pink flamingoes and is a World Heritage Site.
Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. A late afternoon gamedrive will
allow you to see the many wild animals in the park. You will also be taken
to a cliff view point overlooking the lake. [see the picture of the lake
on our home page of the website] Dinner and overnight at Lion Hill
Lodge.
Day 4- Full day at Lake Nakuru National
Park. Early morning gamedrive. Best time to see the animals some of them
hunting for prey. After a leisurely breakfast, rest of the morning is at
leisure. Lunch and another afternoon gamedrive follows where you explore
a different part of the park, towards the Makalia Falls. Dinner and overnight
at Lion Hill Lodge.
Day 5- Enjoy your buffet breakfast before leaving for Mountain
Lodge, situated at the base of Mount Kenya. This is a Tree lodge for which
the Mount Kenya region is famous, and is uniquely Kenyan concept.The lodge
has specially constructed viewing bunkers from where you can spot game any
time of the day. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon can be
spent viewing the game from a spacious verandah overlooking the waterhole
or by going for a forest walk for sighting of game and bird life ( optional).
Night game viewing here is a joy-if you are lucky, you could see an elephant
coming to feed near the lodge, only metres from you. Dinner and overnight
at Mountain Lodge.
Day 6- After a buffet breakfast, depart for the semi-arid
Samburu National Park. Arrive at the lodge by lunchtime. The afternoon gamedrive
will allow you to see the variety of wildlife. This area is home to the
nomadic Samburu tribe, and the reserve has some unique species of animals
not found elsewhere in East Africa, such as the Grevy's Zebra. You will
also visit a traditional samburu house that has not been organized as a
prearranged tourist visit. Return to the lodge for dinner. Overnight at
Samburu Serena Lodge.
Day 7– After an early buffet breakfast, you will leave
for a scenic drive to Nairobi with a gamedrive enroute. Arrive Nairobi by
lunchtime. Complimentary lunch at Carnivore Restaurant, one of Africa's
most famous restaurants. Afternoon can be spent shopping or a visit to Karen
Blixen Museum ["Out of Africa fame"] can also be arranged ( optional
). Excellent buffet dinner and Overnight at Holiday Inn.
Day 8– After an early buffet breakfast, depart for Tanzania
and the Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive at the lodge by lunchtime. Lunch
and afternoon gamedrive follows in this very scenic park with fabulous views
over the valley to the lake below. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara
Serena Lodge.
Day 9– After breakfast, depart for Serengeti Game Reserve.
Arrive at the lodge by lunchtime. Lunch and afternoon gamedrive follows.
Visit the Ol duvai gorge.This park is essentially similar to Masai Mara,
as they both form one eco system. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti
Serena Lodge.
Day 10– After breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater,
home to hundreds and thousands of plain animals. Arrive at the lodge by
lunchtime. Afternoon gamedrive in the spectacularly formed crater in a 4
wheel drive vehicle follows after lunch. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro
Serena Lodge.
Day 11– After an early buffet breakfast, depart for Amboseli
National Park, set at the foot of magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive
in time for lunch. See the amazing wildlife, especially the elephants during
the afternoon gamedrive. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Serena
Lodge.
Day 12– After breakfast, depart for Nairobi . Stop along
the way at scenic spots or places of interest. Arrive Nairobi by lunchtime.
Afternoon transfer to the airport for flight home.
End of tour.
