LEUC 003: CLIMBING MT RUWENZORI
11 days safari hiking Rwenzori, mountains of the moon climb
DAY 1: Arrival at Entebbe
You will be received and welcomed to Uganda by Volvo Safaris, have some refreshments if flight is early in Entebbe and then will transfer to Kampala to check in at your accommodation. If flight arrives early, you change some money then have a city tour, all around Kampala visiting cultural places, traditional places and historical sites. Dinner and overnight at Olympia Guest House
DAY 2: Kampala to Kasese.
Early breakfast, we depart Kampala to Kasese via Mbarara heading for the foothills of the mountains of the moon. Check in at your accommodation for dinner and overnight rest Margarita Hotel.
DAY 3: Equator Glaciers Tour (EGT) begins
Early morning breakfast then transfer to Nyakalengija on to Ibanda to start your 5-6 hour climbs into the mountains. Your climb takes you through thick Equatorial vegetation before arriving at the Nyabitaba hut (2650 meters) in the late evening for Dinner and Overnights rest.
DAY 4: John Matte Hut
Early breakfast, then we start a morning hike through the Kurt Sharfer Bridge to marvel at the sparkling Mobuku river confluence. A climb through the open patches, Lobelia, and Heath moss forest before proceeding up to the John Matte hut for overnight.
DAY 5: Bujuku Hut
Depart early through the giant Lobelias and heath trees. You ascend to the Bigo Bog and scenic landscape of Lobelias and giant Groundsels. Dinner and overnight stop at Bujuku hut (3997 meters).
DAY 6: Mount Victoria & Mount Speke
Head off from the valley in with scenic alpine vegetation consisting of Giant Groundsels and Lobelia and head on to ascent Mount Victoria and Mount Speke at (4890 meters)
DAY 7: Elena Hut
Depart through the lovely views of the Savoia and Elena glaciers, scale further through to the Scott Elliott pass (4372 meters) and proceed through the snow to the Elena hut for overnight rest.
DAY 8: Final ascent to the Alps of Africa!
Early morning ascent to the snowy Alexander peak (5092m) and then onwards to the highest peak at (5109m), great photo opportunities available. Thereafter descend to the beautiful Lake Kitandara for overnight stay at Kitandara hut (3900m).
D AY 9: Descent, Guy Yeoman Hut
After early breakfast, descent begins. Picnic lunch on the way, after which we Resume journey to Guy Yeoman hut for dinner and overnight’s rest.
DAY 10: Return to Kasese
Descend to Nyabitaba and proceed to Ibanda and check in at your accommodation for dinner and overnight rest at Margarita Hotel.
DAY 11: Transfer to Kampala
After breakfast, check out and depart for to Kampala with a stop at the crafts village at the Equators for some crafts shopping, arrive Kampala this afternoon and either check in to your overnight accommodation Olympia Guest house OR head to the Airport for departure. Price includes:
- Transportation in a custom safari vehicle
- Services of a trained experienced English speaking driver/guide
- Full board accommodation in the lodge/tented camp based on double/twin sharing
- Gorilla permits and park entry fees
